Review of The Singing Detective (2003) by Jason Y — 01 Jun 2004
I was expecting to love the new Aileen Wuornos documentary and hate everything except Robert Downey Jr. in The Singing Detective. Downey was great, and the movie wasn't that bad either. Now Aileen, on the other hand, was kind of boring.
She is only on screen for 15 minutes or so (only for 5 in the first hour). She was also much harder to like in this than she was in the original documentary and Monster. This isn't a must-see for fans of Monster.
Just stick to the original documentary. Aileen has obviously been messed up over ten years on death row. But we can't identify with her at all; sadly, it doesn't appear to be all that sad. She even admits that she is a serial killer.
It takes the fun out of blaming the media in a series of conspiracy theories.
