Review of The Silent House (2010) by Aidan H — 10 Apr 2011
There has been much in the press about this film's one-take authenticity but, after spending what seemed like several hours watching the back of Colucci's head as it drifts throughout the titular abode, I can safely say that its unnecessary cinematographic vanity is all this yawn-inducing and resolutely scare-free plodder has going for it.
I don't mind a film that takes a while to get going but its director has to make it worth our while in the end. With his dated creaks, squeaks and ghostly tweens, Hernandez doesn't elicit so much as a gasp and only those chilled by films like Lady in the Water or The Others will find this to be the stuff of similar nightmares.
A drag to watch.
