Review of The Silent House (2010) by Greg T — 24 Apr 2012
It's a fun idea - an 80min scary house horror film shot in one continual take, following an increasingly terrified (and bloody) girl as she wanders around a grubby, deserted house being terrorised by (mostly) unseen nastiness.
Sadly, it's all promise and no punch, with far too many scenes of interminable wandering in the dark and not nearly enough genuine chills. And, to make matters to worse, it's absolutely incomprehensibly ridiculous, and makes no sense at all.
You may scream at her to get out of the house for the first ten minutes or so, then you'll likely give up when tedium sets in, then you finally realise what's been going on you may well feel thoroughly cheated.
The shooting style doesn't help either - it's too reminiscent of its found-footage brethren and is often far too distracting. Overall, nice they made the effort, but a shame that it sucks. All padding and no scares makes SILENT HOUSE a dull film.
