Review of The Silent House (2010) by Joel M — 29 Jul 2012
I was fairly intrigue with this film especially shot in one continuous take via Canon EOS Digi-SLR. The remake is already playing in theatres somewhere starring Elizabeth Olsen which from what I heard shot in Real Time via Apple Iphone Cam.
The plot is something overly done before but somehow they managed to tweak the formula and added a little spicy twist towards the end and that's where the film loses it's magic touch. In adding a twist to a story, it should be believable or else, it will end up ruining the whole potential of a good story.
The twist on this movie didn't even leave some small clues at the beginning and it sprung everything in a huge bite! It was an uncontrollable gunfire that ruined almost everything in the movie. The performances are pretty strong especially Laura.
If you want to have an effective movie, you need to have an effective casts. The setting of course was a major player in this movie. The Ominousity and Eerieness was felt throughout the film. Overall, a good watch but sadly, didn't have a good execution towards the twist.
I suggest you watch High Tension. 3 out of 5 stars! :).
