Review of The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by Alex M — 22 Feb 2013
For a film that is over twenty years old, it still holds up remarkably well. Despite a short amount of screen time, Anthony Hopkins delivers one of the most chilling and calculated performances I've ever seen; however, I don't think it holds a candle to Jodie Foster's steadfast, level, and at times even heartbreaking performance as Clarice Starling.
Besides stellar performances, The Silence of the Lambs benefits from a fantastic script and consistently fantastic editing that keeps your heart racing for the majority of the film - the last fifteen minutes were particularly impressive at building up tension.
I really can't find much fault in this; everything from the performances to the screenplay to the editing to the direction is absolutely stellar. It's a modern horror classic as well as a tense thriller, and easily one of the best films to be released in the 90s.
