Review of The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by Alasdair B — 22 Oct 2014
If you think you've seen a scary disturbing film, think again. "The Silence of the Lambs'' is a crime thriller horror film directed by Jonathan Demme and stars Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. The film has won several Oscars, an rightly so. It's one of the most disturbing films ever made, yes, but also one of the most well written and and well acted films of all time.
Clarice Starling (Foster) is a FBI trainee who is given an assignment to break her in. She must consult with Dr. Hannibal Lector (Hopkins) on the whereabouts of Buffalo Bill a serial killer and psychopath. She traverses the depths of humanity and discovers the truly evil people that hide in the shadows.
Nothing can prepare one for this brutal film. It's a thriller crime film but also, in many ways, a horror film. It's full of nail bitting tension and uncertainty at every corner. It gives you a creeping sense that you are being pulled into the films dark depths as you witness the utter horror of these two psychopaths.
The performances of the actors and actresses in this are riveting and disturbing. Anthony Hopkins gives the performance of a lifetime. Judi Foster does a fantastic job as the lead character, and Ted Livine does a fantastic job at making your very skin crawl with disgust.
Dark, disturbing, and terrifying, "The Silence of the Lambs'' is a superior crime horror film that showcases how dark humanity can be and showcases the great talent of Anthony Hopkins.
