Review of The Silence of the Hams (1994) by Thaumiel N — 22 Sep 2008
Sometimes stupid can be very clever, and sometimes stupid is just plain stupid. Italian spoof The Silence of the Hams certainly fits into the latter. As the pun of a title suggests, this film spoofs Silence of the Lambs mainly, as well as Hitchcock's Psycho, with varying degrees of quality.
It follows the usual spoof strategy of constantly throwing gags at the viewer and seeing what sticks. This results in some very funny sight gags, and some excruciatingly bad ones, so a mixed bag indeed.
Billy Zane is a game comedian though, and I would definitely like to see him try more comedy. Not as good as the spoof classics Airplane! or The Naked Gun, but miles better than recent crap like Date/ Epic/ Disaster Movie.
