Review of The Siege of Jadotville (2016) by James Y — 19 Jun 2017
Incredibly solid historical drama/action film. Educational, in the sense that I learned something new and came away wanting to know more.
I've not the eye for minor deviations, but the period dress and equipment all look superb and perfectly authentic, and a great blend of practical and CGI effects.
It feels real, and puts you on edge. Some deep themes on geopolitics and the pointlessness of the Cold War if you want to read in that far.
Won three awards at the Irish Film & Television Awards (best director, best supporting actor, best VFX) and it's easy to tell why.
