Review of The Shop Around the Corner (1940) by Terry M — 17 Jan 2008
One of the most charming romantic comedies ever made...this film makes you realize why Margaret Sullavan was such a beloved actress in her day, although, unfortunatley, she is almost forgotten today. This film has spawned a number of remakes: The delightful musical version IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME with Judy Garland and YOU'VE GOT MAIL.
The stage musical SHE LOVES ME is also an adaption of the same material. Gee, Do you think the story has some staying power? ;) In a light romantic mood? Rent this charmer from 1940...you won't be disappointed!
