Review of The Shop Around the Corner (1940) by Chrissy P — 07 Jul 2009
Jimmy Stewart gives a fantastic performance, as do all the cast members of this oft-looked classic, holiday romance. Frank Morgan, Margaret Sullivan, and every other cast member are a joy to watch. Everyone is at their finest.
I have yet to see the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan remake, but I know that there's no way it can top the original. This movie evokes every emotion and captures the true Christmas spirit. It's funny, romantic, sentimental, and has the ability to bring a tear to your eye.
Every time I watch it, I love it even more. It's truly a classic that has gone under the radar. Jimmy Stewart gives a fantastic performance in a movie where the script is the driving force.
