Review of The Shop Around the Corner (1940) by Sookie R — 28 Feb 2012
Ernst Lubitsch's romance about two shop workers who hate each other but are secretly pay-pals is still one of the most glorious and heartfelt romantic comedies ever made. Sullavan and Stewart make the perfect couple and their chemistry is lovely and touching.
They seem so in love that that alone would make this a good film but the script and the fantastic supporting turns also help towards the cause. There is plenty of heart and intelligence, two characteristics of which 'The Shop Around the Corner' boasts in spades.
