Big John knew his sun was setting and finishes with a performance that gives Ethan Edwards a good run for his money. Ron Howard rubs off on The Duke in an amusing chalk and cheese scenario, "My name is not boy!".
Jimmy Stewart, Lauren Bacall, and Scatman Crothers also blend in with ease in Don Siegel's splendid vision of an enigmatic hero's glorious last stand.
