Review of The Shining (1980) by Paul R — 27 Jul 2013
From the gliding aerial shots in the opening credits through to the cameras ghost like drifting through many of the hotel corridors -this film mesmorises and always seems fresh and new. (apart from the hotel carpet which is far beyond retro) Not only is The Shining one of my all time favourite films but it also has one of my all time favourite scenes in film: as Jack Nicholson looks down at a scale model of the hedge maze and we slowly zoom in to the centre, the camera cuts seamlessly to an amazing aerial shot of the centre of the maze that his wife and son are walking in.
It always impresses. Kubrick is one of my favourite directors and this certainly showcases his talents. The Shining is a creepy, scary and fascinating film with great performances. Whether you've read the Stephen King novel or not The Shining is a must see Horror from a visionary director.
