Review of The Shining (1980) by Wilman A — 18 Jan 2014
Very fresh idea for the era. one of the greatest psychology horor movie. shockingly from the early, blood scene which will make us wondering what`s that about. using the set of hotel building. the big building and haunted atmosfer make this movie success gived us the idea.
and the twist in the earlier make this movie very interesting from the start. tell a story smoothly day by day. the idea of "Shining" word is from the ability of the boy which will knew in the middle of movie.
but I thought this movie is too much focusing at detail scenes rather than the main story. some imagination scenes make us confusing. and of course Jack Nicholson is always the perfect match for the character like this.
using the axe as the support of horor is the brilliant idea, make this movie more like brutal and natural. what to be appreciate is this horor didn`t intend to using a lot of creepy cosmetology and costum of the ghost to built the horor experiment.
and now what make us wondering is the picture which Jack appeared in 1920,what the purpose of director from that scene? my writing below containing spoiler and all explanation. this is all about a heritage of murder ritual.
derived from the first man, let`s call him Delbert Grady, he is the former butler and killer. he is success and take his role as the murderer. so after he is death, this ritual derived to the second guy name Charles Grady, Charles had a chance - once more, perhaps - to not take on Delbert's legacy, but he is also murder his family while he taking caretaker role in 1970.
after he is death, this legacy derived to Jack Torrance, but unfortunetely Jack also taking the role and intend to kill his family but failed. the wife and boy success to escape leave Jack death frozen.
so let`s say the picture can in 1920 can change the face from Delbert to Charles and finally to the last legacy,Jack. maybe there is will the fourth member of this role and if he taking the role, the picture will change as his face.
the director intend to make us wondering and feel involved with this movie with this mystery. so maybe the fourth guy will be you.
