Review of The Shining (1980) by Bheema D — 12 Feb 2014
It's been such a long time since I wanted to watch this film! So many people told me how awesome it was and you know what they were right! No one makes films like that anymore and it's such a bummer because this film even it has been done some thirty something years ago still manages to be ten times better than all the so called horror films produced over the last 20 years in Hollywood.
The camera work is marvelous, the scenery breathtaking and the acting so sharp, it's a treat to see Jack Nicholson going slowly crazy before our eyes while his son gets weirder and weirder by the minute.
His wife played by the rarely seen Chelley Duvall is an impressive mix of fragility and resourcefulness. She can transmit her fear and horror so well to the audience, her acting is better than any little blond siliconed out there trying hard but never truly convincing.
Shelley is DOPE! This is a film done by a master and it feels like it straight from the long opening aerial shot and the first note of the incredible soundtrack. This film is a classic and if you get to see it you'll understand straight away that you are dealing here with something different, something unique and everlasting.
