Review of The Shining (1980) by Russ V — 19 Apr 2015
The Shining is simply a terrific horror film. Led by an outstanding performance by Jack Nicholson, and brilliant directing from Stanley Kubrick, where even the smallest detail has a purpose, with what may seen insignificant such as the pictures on the walls, props in the background, and even the way some words may be written, Kubrick not only crafted a creepy horror film, but a film which has many different hidden meaning and messages which make it fascinating film to watch for repeated viewings (definitely recommend watching the documentary Room 237).
Also worth mentioning, is this is the first horror film with a runtime exceeding 2 hours that didn't feel to long (and I often find an hour and 45 minutes even feels to long for horror).
