Review of The Shining (1980) by Landon M — 05 Nov 2015
One of my all time favorite movies. The Shining is one of the most obscure, creative, and terrifying movies ever made. It may be my favorite Kubrick movie, alongside 2001, and it is definitely the most re-watchable.
The movie is filled with fantastic, creepy performances and completely startling writing. The most phenomenal trait of this movie is that it features some of the best cinematography I have ever seen. There are shots of this movie that will drop your mouth.
The movie is unsettling from the start, and as the tension builds it gets better and better. Nicholson and Lloyd are the standout actors, as Lloyd gives one of the best kid performances ever, and Nicholson transforms into a horror icon.
The last act is terrifying, and it is still startling to this day. The hidden messages and metaphors are also something that will keep you interested long after you watch it. Overall, this is an unforgettable experience, and is one of the great horror movies ever.
