Review of The Shepherd: Border Patrol (2008) by Jiaming H — 17 Feb 2009
Two in a row! Yet another solid DTV effort for JCVD. While his previous movie, 'Until Death', continued in the spirit of downbeat dramas like 'Wake of Death' and 'In Hell,' 'The Shepherd' is a combination of those films, but also hearkens back to his mid-90s output like 'Sudden Death.
' Jean Claude plays Jack Robideaux, another unfortunately named hero who, along with his pet rabbit, is bent on taking down rogue government agents who are in the drug trade. JCVD's co-star, Natalie Robb, is a little hottie, and provides some welcome cleavage shots towards the end.
Another actor in here worthy of mention is Scott Adkins as the baddie, who, although not giving as impressive a performance as in 'Undisputed 2', still shines in the few scenes he's given.
This movie only serves as further proof that it's only a matter of time before Adkins is a fully-fledged action leading man in his own right. Speaking of Undisputed 2, Isaac Florentine also helms here, and gives the Shepherd the same stylized feel.
I watched this along with Bridge of Dragons last night, and it's amazing how far he's come. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this as a late-night pizza flick.
