A movie that greatly deserves all the praise it has. This film is a master class of storytelling, characters, and acting. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman give some of the best performances of their careers and everybody does well to, theres not a bad actor at all in this movie.
The story and plot are absolutely engrossing in every way and it was beautifully directed. The script was very well written and there are great memorable lines to be heard. It is a shame this film didn't win any academy awards and I thought that Forrest Gump was on par with this movie even though it won Best Picture over Shawshank Redemption.
This film also featured one of the best finales ever portrayed on screen and it will leave you with a smile on your face. Frank Darabont directs this movie with such care and dedication to the acting and plot and the result is one of the most deeply satisfying prison dramas of all time and one of the best movies ever made.
He would go on to direct The Green Mile which is also one of the best prison dramas ever made. I can't imagine somebody that would end up hating this film and finding nothing whatsoever to like about it.
