The Shawshank Redemption is not just one of the best films of the nineties but also one of the most loved and celebrated films of all time. The story, based on a Stephen King novella, is about the friendship between two men who bond over a number of years while locked up in prison.

The film's most touching aspect, and the one that one would find fulfilling about the film, is the way in which it portrays the longing and pain of the fight for freedom and even redemption. But The Shawshank Redemption is also about human connections and human warmth, both feelings that would not be identified in the confined setting of a prison, but still exist because, as the story implies, it is necessary for survival.

But what also makes this film deeply satisfying is the wonderful and tasteful direction with which Darabont brings the story to the big screen and a beautiful and meticulous cinematography that feels faithful to the emotions the film carries across.

Robbins and Morgan head a great cast with great performances that complete the picture of an excellent touching and poignant film.
