A prison movie about the injustices and inhumanity of prison life, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The movie and its quotes have entered the modern lexicon: "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.
" The movie barely broke even at the box office, but has achieved legendary status on cable TV and in the DVD business. On some sites it is voted the best movie ever made. It was nominated for seven academy awards but did not win any; Forrest Gump won most of them that year.
