As most of us know, Stephen King is quite an interesting fellow. His movie adaptations haven't always been well received, perhaps due to the fact that most people don't relate well to his bizarre creations.

The Shawshank Redemption, however, is simply an incredible film. There are (many) reasons why some of the most respected critics rave about this film.

The Director, Frank Darapont, beautifully captured the essence of King's storytelling in this edge-of-your-seat rollercoaster.

Maybe it's the connections you find yourself identifying with throughout the film. The film was filled with some incredibly talented actors, a group that worked very well together having numerous stellar portrayals. Perhaps it's the way Frank Darabont tugs at your heart strings with hope, friendship and the meaning of life. This film truly touches on all the "deep stuff" in life. Watching this film for the first time was like discovering a newfound sense of meaning, I left uplifted with a sense of boundless gratitude, ready to take on the world! I feel that certain films that move you to feel certain emotions are among some of the most powerful. The Shawshank Redemption is well-deserving of such a description.

Tim Robbins shines as Andy Dufresne- a skinny young banker from Maine. To Dufresne's unfortunate luck, he is accused of killing his cheating wife and her lover. His promises and cries of innocence in court don't carry much weight, but his shy manner and likable personality do. Andy soon makes friends at Shawshank Prison with "Red", played by Morgan Freeman. Red is a veteran con who takes an authoritative position at Shawshank. Andy soon draws a circle of prisoners around him, and before he knows it has quite the group of friends. One of which, played by James Whitmore, plays an elderly man who will certainly toy with your emotions at some point in the film.

There's a reason why this film is constantly on "Top 10 Movies of all Time" lists. A must see for all.
