Review of The Shawshank Redemption (1994) by Chad H — 30 Nov 2015
Home sick with the flu, so dusting off some of my old favorites. I don't like Tim Robbins but do enjoy this movie. It's what I would call a slow movie, not much action, no real special effects.
Just a great story with good acting, the way movies used to be. This movie came out in 1994 and is based on a Stephen King short story called Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank redemption, featured in his collection called Different Seaons.
The movie is about Andy Dufresne,(Tim Robbins) a banker who is sentenced to life in Shawshank Prison for the murder of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. Over the course of almost 20 years in prisons, to goes over Andies Changed life, his adventures behind bars and his friendship with Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding,(Morgan Freeman) who runs one of the prison black market rackets, but is a decent man.
I'ts a somewhat sad, melancholic story, with moments of humor, both light and dark. It does end on a note of optimism and hope. It was a box office failure, sad to say I didn't go see it, but don't recall it ever making it to Longview or Kelso to be honest.
Have the dvd, watch it at least once a year. If you haven't seen it, and you don't mind a movie that doesn't have a lot of bells or whistles, please watch it.
