Review of The Shawshank Redemption (1994) by Thequietgamer — 12 Jan 2018
The definitive prison film. Frank Darabont's take on the Stephen King story is considered to be one of the best movies ever made. For good reason too. The performances and writing are nothing short of excellent.
At it's heart it's about friendship, but themes of hope and the indeterminable human spirit run throughout. It uses the prison industry and concept of institutionalization to deliver an uplifting tale.
It's the kind of movie everybody should see at least once in their life. Rarely has there been a film to outstandingly executed. It's nothing short of a masterpiece and has been incredibly influential over the years.
Go see what the fuss is about. You won't be disappointed. It's a movie that will stick with you forever and show's a different side of the legendary horror-fiction writer Stephen King by taking a rare, grounded turn for a more realistic dramatic approach.
