Review of The Shawshank Redemption (1994) by Georgina W — 17 Feb 2014
Superb. Whatever happened to Tim Robbins? He is fantastic in this. Obligatory 'shower type' scenes early on in an all male environment, with Andy looking pretty compared with the other inmates. When Andy gets the Guard Captain to confide in him and later the other guards is pure class. Morgan Freeman is good as you might expect. James Whitmore plays Brooks very well and this has parallels with Birdman of Alcatraz with his crow 'Jake'. Apparently one of the most popular video rentals of all time.
Did you know Stephen King was paid $1 for the rights, and in the original version Morgan Freeman's character 'Red' is a ginger-haired Irishman?
