Review of The Shape of Water (2017) by Im I — 14 Mar 2018
The Shape of Water showcases some of the best of director Guillermo del Toro whose distinct vision and love of cinema shines through in this touching story. The characters and themes of acceptance are strongly represented, with Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer and Doug Jones all doing amazing jobs to completely captivate their characters.
The music is moving and distinct while the visuals, including the set design are simply fascinating, making even a soap dispenser alluring. The narrative may be predictable with the stakes and twists not so surprising, but its probably the most complete and neat package awards contenders have offered this year, with the movies perfect length working in its favour.
