A mesmerising masterpiece with great cinematography, well written complex storyline and a nice soundtrack which adds to the film's atmosphere. Sally Hawkins definitely stands out as the protagonist mute lady and the creature she falls for is certainly relatable. Michael Shannon is suited to his villainous role; and both Richard Jenkins and Octavia Spencer set great examples of hospitable companions to the protagonist; in this case, Sally Hawkins.

To me, this is the first Guillermo del Toro film I've seen and upon viewing, was intrigued by the graphics involved (especially the water scenes) and I personally believe he deserved an Oscar for Best Director. If you've seen this film and don't agree with this; that's not a problem; but if you haven't seen this film because you feel it's not as good as other viewers like myself think; then at least give it one viewing; if not two, to understand why this film has such high acclaim.
