If the best a "master storyteller" can come up with is such a harsh drama peopled by all the current stereotypes in vogue, then we who love good stories are in trouble. What could have been a truly touching love story was marred by trite reruns of bigotry, meanness and sex in most of the characters.
A disappointment.
