Review of The Shape of Water (2017) by Kevin M — 02 Feb 2018
An idolization of 1960s nostalgia and little else. The movie makes frequent detours to show classic cars, musical films on old TVs, blinking theater lights, hand-painted ads, old house construction, diners, etc.
There's a good dose of artistic symbolism forced in too. People in the movie seem out of place and there's almost no story at all. It's fun to watch, but at the same time so frustrating that it could have been much better.
