Review of The Shape of Water (2017) by Ken T — 20 Dec 2017
I really dig all of del Toro's works, no matter what genre he is inspired by: chracter pieces like Cronos, period piece horror fables (Devil's Backbone Pans' Labyrinth), action (Blade 2, The Strain) action comicbook (the Hellboy films), gothic romance (Crimson Peak), terse young adult adventure (Pacific Rim), when seen through his lens it always seems like something familiar yet fantastically fresh at the same time, and The Shape of Water was such a delightful mash up of many styles of genre movie making/classic films and storytelling that of course this great film was made by Guillermo.
..5 Stars, recommended!
