Review of The Shape of Water (2017) by Dan M — 12 Jan 2018
So this is the Fish Banging Movie, aka Grinding Nemo(thanks Honest Trailers). Years ago Guillermo del Toro did those Hellboy movies and one of the side characters was basically a carbon copy of the amphibious creature featured here, only the one in Hellboy talked.
I don't know if there's any connection at all to those movies or it's just pure coincidence, but it was a hard thing to ignore. It's a love story, so that doesn't really do much for me.
The acting is great, no surprise there, this got so much hype which I don't see why. Not a bad movie, but once again not something I'd consider for "Best Picture". Whatevs.
