Review of The Shape of Water (2017) by Tim C — 26 Mar 2018
While the premise of bringing back a classic movie monster for an interesting new story is a brilliant idea, it did not translate as well onto the screen. It's story is underwhelming, riddled with plot holes and at times is preachy with its overplayed themes of the struggles of America's disenfranchised in the 60's.
Nonetheless it is a technical masterpiece from its gorgeously detailed costumes and sets to its unique soundtrack and ingenious cinematography. Despite its style over substance problem it still retains a sort of weird charm that makes it absolutely worth it to see.
