The good - production design, camerawork - is sadly outweighed by the bad - a treacly sentimentality and ludicrous plot. It's true I'm not a fan of Del Toro and at least this isn't Pacific Rim, but it's outrageous that this lengthy hybrid of ET and a fifties Norman Wisdom filler beat Phantom Thread and Three Billboards to Best Picture.
