Review of The Shape of Things (2003) by Jessica S — 07 Apr 2004
This is from labute who directed "in the company of men" and "your friends and neighbors" so if you have seen either of those you will know what to expect...if you haven't, expect to be drawn into the characters emotionally, only to have your guts wrenched by their cruel behavior.
..i personally really like his movies and I liked this one. .. there is always a very funny, often cruel, character in labutes' movies and although this one (the protagonists' best friend) is not in the same league as the ones in the previously mentioned movies, he is still very entertaining.
... if you are a person who does not mind movies that do not "wrap everything up nicely with a bow and make the audience feel good," you will like this.. the one flaw is that I found certain parts a bit unrealistic, the main character has outrageous demands made on him by his girlfriend but stays smitten, I wasn't buying it (or maybe just didn't want to).
