Review of The Shape of Things (2003) by Dragisa S — 23 Jan 2009
Saw it because I have a friend who's the lead in the play next month, and I thought I should watch it beforehand. It's Closer.... with a twist! I really think this is yet another one of those movies (Doubt) where the playwright directs the adaptation, and it just doesn't work at all.
It wasn't until the last ten or so minutes that I even began to see directing. Fred Weller, whoever he is, might be the worst actor I've ever seen in anything (and I watched Gran Torino). Paul Rudd was great though.
I'm sure I'll like it on stage because I really enjoyed the dialogue, and a lot of these scenes feel like they'd be played out much better on stage.
