Review of The Shallows (2016) by Christopher B — 01 Oct 2016

We are so accustom to CGI Tentpole extravganzas or occasionally complex original cinema, this is a brutally simple shark thriller as it should be. There is some cheesy spots and story cliches but what impressed me is just how well-executed and riveting it is all around.

Blake Lively is really terrific in the lead role; her precise characterization grounds the effectively visceral thrills. This might be a B-movie, but it is crafted with more class and heft than it deserves!
