Review of The Shallows (2016) by Sion J — 12 Aug 2016
An entertaining 90 minutes of shark filled suspense and disbelief, "The Shallows" is pretty enjoyable for the most part but does occasional give off the whiff of a late night Channel 5 movies for men special.
It comes off as a glorified surfer advert for the majority of its running time mixed in with a few suspenseful moments of CGI shark action.
The problem is there is only one decent shark film and its never been bettered. I'm glad it doesn't try and rip off "Jaws" as the director is clearly intelligent enough to understand there is no point.
Blake Lively is entertaining enough but towards the end it all gets rather silly.
Still it was nice to watch something other than a superhero film or remake.
