Review of The Shallows (2016) by Abbel C — 27 Oct 2016

In the movie The Shallows by director Jaume Collet-Serra, has some big actors like Blake Lively, Oscar jaenada, Brett Cullen and a few others. This movie was an exciting, suspenseful yet a predictable movie. Also my first thought of the movie was great until I realized it was a one man show, then it lost my interest. It also did not portray a well representation of a shark in my opinion.

The plot in this movie was how one woman had to survive a man eating shark that trapped her on an island that was slowly fading away. In this movie a woman named Nancy goes a little too close to one sharks feeding ground and gets in trouble with it. She has to survive this long excruciating time until someone can hopefully help her.

The main actor Nancy, Blake Lively, did very well portraying an injured woman being attacked and stalked by a man eating shark. I thought she played this part very well since it was really just her and a seagull most of the movie.

In this movie there were many different film techniques used. The director used many sounds effects that really showed the effect of something happening. Like when she stepped on the corral you could hear it and almost feel the pain she went through. Also slow-motion effects were played at key parts of the film. The background music also had a huge impact on the film because without it there would have been no suspense or thrill of anything.

This movie just isn't for everyone. If you like movies that are a little unrealistic, with some suspense and thrill then this movie could be for you, but not for everyone. I hope this helps when you are debating to watch this movie or not.
