Review of The Shallows (2016) by Brendan N — 26 Dec 2016
The film was a great surprise until the final third, the creators turned down a road of self discovery which annoyed me. The cat and mouse game was pulsating and any time a hand or foot was in the water it had me hiding behind my hands.
The final third felt too comfortable and bordered on the line of being too far fetched. The film deserved a better ending and one that didn't sugar coat for the mainstream audience. Great central performance covers the film and the one set location was brilliantly used.
Great for a watch but a shark film that is by the numbers and won't hold for rewatching, which is a shame.
