Review of The Shack (2017) by Kristin H — 20 Mar 2017
I am a Christian and read the book years ago. It follows the book well. Honestly I appreciated the movie even more, because the book is so dramatic that the screen captures it well. I'm well versed in the Bible and a Protestant, and to me it seemed theologically well done. This man is going through a very real struggle which leads him to anger and distrust of God. God portrayed is the same Christian God I've come to know.
People who are offended by Jesus, will certainly be offended by this movie. People without faith might not like it since the crux of the movie is the good news about Jesus and the love of the Father, but on the other hand, it addresses the big questions of faith, so I'd encourage the seekers to give it a chance. One person I know came to Christ after accidentally reading this book and shortly after suffered a great sudden loss. So I'm thankful that those who made this movie did it for Christ and not simply the world's accolades. Although I still think it's the best Christian movie I've seen. The acting was quite good and overall just captured the story well.
I agree with some of the other reviews - bring a box of tissues. The plot itself is heart wrenching. In addition, the good news of God's love and mercy is told so beautifully, that I cried from beginning to end. Thoroughly enjoyed!
