Review of The Shack (2017) by Gregg P — 06 Mar 2017
This movie is one of the most important movies you'll ever watch. For within is found the real answer to life, why we are here, and what it is all about, as plainly spelled out in the Bible. If you don't think so after seeing it, then get on your knees and ask God to show you, because it is that important!
This movie hints at how God's beloved Chrisitian church, in general, is sadly getting it wrong.
In a nutshell, the church is currently behaving as the older son in the "Prodigal Son" analogy that Jesus taught. We are currently focused on performance and what we can do to gain God's favor, and why our brothers should not be gaining God's favor because of their performance.
When indeed the truth is that God doesn't care about any of that. It's not about what we do, it's about how he feels about us as an unconditionally loving "Papa". His love for us knows no bounds and he runs to us, giddy with delight, if we show even the slightest desire to come back to be with him, as the prodigal son did.
It's not about us and what we do or what we think, it's about Him and what he has done (on the cross) to bring us all back together as a family. We are his sons or daughters whether we know it or not. The challenge is to see it and believe it. That is the good news that the Bible and this movie talks about.
It's not surprising the critics don't get it especially when the church has a hard time with it. Yet, an 88% audience approval score is some indication that our Papa is awesome and people can sense the truth of it in there somewhere.
To learn more, look up the theologian C. Baxter Kruger's stuff on YouTube or read his accompanying book "The Shack Revisited". This guy has spent his entire life coming to the same conclusions and shows the church how we have pulled a "Pharisee" and missed God's real message once again. That is one of the main ideas of the movie, right? You don't see me correctly. Here is how I really am. And boy, is he awesomely good!
