Review of The Sewing Circle (1992) by Philip L — 11 Feb 2010
Kembra Pfahler (best known for her insane performance art where she would crack paint filled eggs on her vulva) teams up with the Cinema Of Transgression's finest filmmaker, Richard Kern, to make this little number.
For seven minutes the viewer is forced to watch a woman (for no apparent reason) get the lips of her vagina sewn closed. And that's it. The film ends. Richard Kern is seriously one of the boldest filmmakers that ever was.
His work is so subversive and unapologetic that it almost forces you to have respect for the artist. Some would disagree, but like Richard Kern and his films I will not apologize. It is what it is. As a viewer I like to be challenged, and Kern's work does nothing but.
