A dark brooding James Mason imbues The Seventh Veil with tons of dramatic tension. Mason is the guardian for a gifted pianist. When she begins to form attachments that threaten her art, Mason is ruthless.

Eventually, she breaks away from Mason, but she suffers a nervous breakdown. Her psychiatrist analyzes her and assembles a small group of her closest friends and lovers. When the shrink asks her to select the one with whom she wishes to maintain a relationship - her seventh veil falls away revealing a shocking reality.

This film electrified audiences in the immediate postwar period. It is the second most popular film in the history of Great Britain surpassed only by Gone With the Wind. This film established Mason as the top box office idol in the world, a status he maintained for years that permitted him to move into Hollywood where he had his pick of character roles for the rest of his life.
