Review of The Seven Year Itch (1955) by Vicki S — 14 Jan 2008
Wilder wasn't too sure about working with Cinemascope for the first time but he uses it (with lots of pans and sweeps) to great effect - especially with the fantasy sequence. Monroe is utterly charming and though it's a shame that Wilder couldn't get the casting he wanted (Walter Matthau rather than Tommy Ewell) the film still works beautifully.
Robert Strauss as the janitor is a hoot.
