Billy Wilder can do anything from film noir to comedy, but this is so far my least favorite of his films, which isn't too bad since it's competing with Some Like It Hot, Sunset Blvd. and my personal favorite of his Double Indemnity.

It was obvious to me before I knew it that this was based on a play because of all of the monologing and the fact that it all takes place in primarily one location, which isn't at all a bad thing, but it does feel staged and artificial.

The main character was too unrealistic to be taken seriously and I didn't find anything particularly funny either. I do sympathize with the character because his qualities are that of a real person, just exaggerated to the point of it being ridiculous.

this is still a good movie and it's great to see Marilyn Monroe in her prime, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped.
