It's the first movie about sex I can recall in a long time whose frankness actually relieves discomfort rather than adding to it. "The Sessions" in many ways has a very strong go-big-or-go-home attitude doing this; thus, while the film remains slight, the realism and the movie-like sentiment are just where they should be to elevate things thematically.
