Review of The Sessions (2012) by Barb F — 25 Jan 2013
A sensitive and accurate portrayal of a usually taboo subject, acted with surprising skill and authenticity by John Hawkes and Helen Hunt. Macy's interpretation of the priest didn't seem to fit the tenor of the rest of the film, but was a welcome comic relief at times, although he conveyed the ambivalence you would expect, considering his position.
Helen Hunt's matter of fact comfortableness with her total on camera nudity made the viewers equally at ease with it. The director, however is not equally comfortable with male nudity. What an enigma this is in these enlightened times.
