Review of The Sessions (2012) by David B — 13 Jun 2013
A really good film about a disabled man trying to have a normal sex life. The realism in this film is superb & entertaining at the same time which is hard to do. A lot of good performances and a great one by Helen Hunt.
Not a great film, but she should have won an Academy Award for Best Actress. This is her best film in my view playing a character very tough to play & make believable. The depth of her ability is extraordinary.
If it were not for the subject matter & the controversy about the film in re to sex surrogates, she would have won. The movie is not about sex, but about a man trying to connect with others as he lives in a physical purgatory.
This film does not try to be something that it is not & that is why it is so good. I was impressed & at the same time entertained.
