Review of The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988) by Efrén C — 02 Dec 2007
It is quite impossible to get into the mind set of people who produce such works of art. Yes, I would be scared by meeting a mummy dressed as a bride and kissing me by means of a serpent extending from its rotten mouth.
Not least because of the sexual allusions. And yes, it is quite disturbing if a man gets his balls penetrated by a rusty iron nail. But no, I am not impressed by seeing this on screen bluntly presented by some inapt actors.
Even if one of them really looks scary (and he does not even play the mummy). It is common knowledge that the appreciation of art is mainly determined by alcohol and good company. On these premises we spent a pleasant evening.
But for those who have not had their go yet I would also recommend hallucinogenic drugs to compensate for what the film will not deliver.
