Review of The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988) by Zachary F — 18 Jun 2008
Fascinating and bizarre. I loved the imagery and the sets in this film. It was often hard to distinguish what was real, from what was just a hallucination; and I thought that was a really nice touch, because it made us feel the same way that Bill Pullman's character was feeling.
The movie's "spell" kind of wears off towards the final minutes, but it hits us with a nice zinger at the end, that brings a satisfying close to a creepy and unique experience. For the most part, all of Craven's films are great, but I think that this is probably one of his all-time best.
